On August 15, 2000, Vodacom Tanzania formally declared the start of its commercial operations. Within a year of its inception, Vodacom Tanzania rose to the top of the mobile operator rankings and continues to hold this position as the largest mobile communications network operator in Tanzania.

Vodacom Tanzania maintains operational and engineering branches throughout Tanzania, with its executive offices located on the 14th floor of the PPF Towers on Garden Avenue / Ohio Street in Dar Es Salaam. Numerous network providers worldwide, including T-Mobile USA, Inc. in the United States, Vodafone Ltd. in the United Kingdom, and BPL Cellular (now Vodafone) in Kerala, India, have active roaming arrangements with the company.[5] The business uses a variety of Super dealers and Vodashops to distribute its goods and services.
