PROFAILI YA USAID TANZANIA ( PROFILE OF USAID TANZANIA )
USAID (United States Agency for International Development) is the world’s premier international development agency and a catalytic actor driving development results. USAID’s work advances U.S. national security and economic prosperity, demonstrates American generosity, and promotes a path to recipient self-reliance and resilience. USAID is committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace where everyone has an opportunity to thrive.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Strategy
USAID’s DEIA Strategy commits the Agency to improving and enhancing diversity throughout the organization, promoting inclusion and equity for everyone in the workplace, and strengthening accountability for maintaining a diverse workforce and an inclusive Agency culture.
Enhancing Diversity: To achieve this goal, USAID leadership will address internal systems that potentially inhibit inclusive diversity efforts. This includes implementing policies, programs, and practices to improve and increase diversity, and developing broad outreach strategies to attract talent from diverse sources.
Enhancing Inclusion and Equity: Agency leaders will support and enable staff participation in DEIA initiatives, engage with these groups to operationalize their recommendations, and provide training and capacity-building opportunities on diversity fundamentals, bias, and inclusion principles. This will create a respectful, safe, and inclusive work environment that enhances retention.
Strengthening Accountability: To ensure accountability, DEIA principles will be consistently applied across program and management operations. Leaders will be required to demonstrate their support for DEIA, and performance management efforts will promote accountability for creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace. Agency efforts will be informed by workforce data and transparency principles.
USAID in Tanzania
Country Overview
Tanzania is one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, but widespread poverty persists. Almost half of its population lives on less than $1.90 per day. High population growth and low productivity in labor-intensive sectors like agriculture, which employs 75 percent of the population, limit broad-based economic growth. While Tanzania’s natural resources are an asset, unsustainable use threatens to perpetuate the cycle of poverty.
USAID empowers Tanzanian women and youth, who are essential to the country’s development but among the most marginalized. Women’s salaries are on average 63 percent lower than men’s, and female-owned businesses make 2.4 times less profit. With 45 percent of Tanzania’s population under age 15, increasing access to economic and educational opportunities for young people is crucial for ensuring prosperity for all.
U.S. Government Support
The U.S. Government is Tanzania’s largest bilateral donor. USAID collaborates with the people of Tanzania to achieve the nation’s development goals as outlined in the USAID Tanzania Country Development Cooperation Strategy.
